${DynamicText("About this genre (loading...)")}

While this genre can be seen as a variant of [Shape Grid], it was invented independently (inspired by Spiral Galaxies). The different line types make for very different solving experiences.

The original [Squares and Rectangles] ruleset allowed for edge/corner clues. However, more recent puzzles, such as [those by Esther Nael|https://gp.worldpuzzle.org/sites/default/files/Puzzles/2024/2024_PuzzleRound4_IB_v01.pdf] were simplified in this regard, while adding "ambiguous clues".

They also use rectangle symbols to represent rectangular regions, and square symbols to represent square regions (albeit oddly tilted). This good idea is extended in this implementation by adding a special shape symbol for the "ambiguous" clue too.
