Kudamono Plans

Genres at various readiness stages will be listed in this table. You can accelerate a genre's release by claiming rule panels (with a cover pic) and by collecting metadata about the genre.

Genre (upcoming) Panels + cover pic Metadata Implementation Info
High-low loop(claimed) by RookdoneNew Nikoli

A claim is considered active as soon as confirmed and a draft implementation is available.

To give other setters a fair chance, it is advisable not to hold more than 2 active claims at once. For the same reason, active claims expire after a week of "silence" — reporting back any progress/problems/predicted date usually suffices to gain an extra week.

Released genres are listed at the Kudamono Retrospective.

If you are the author of a new genre, not yet in the plans, please read how to request an implementation first.

Please familiarise yourself with the Rule Panel Format prior to comitting to making a genre.

By you may be pointed towards a draft implementation. Shall one not exist yet, try to use a genre containing the same base elements.

A cover picture is used to illustrate the genre across the site. It should:

  • represent a unique puzzle in its unsolved state
  • display every aux mark type at least once
  • depict a variety of errors scattered across the board, but in a way that the base ruleset is still apparent from looking at the picture.

To suggest a cover pic, simply draw it as a normal puzzle, and obtain its url, either directly or via the (export) button (taking care to toggle the option to include the solution and aux marks). The suggested cover pic url should be .

The following genre metadata is required for a complete implementation: Designation, Authorship and Interlinks. There are some optional extras as well.

The genre name is required.

Please answer the following questions:

  • are there alternate genre names?
  • are there "confounding" genres/variants with same name?

to answer these questions, please use the big genre databases listed at the Paper Puzzle Masterlist!

Where possible, genre names should be kept in their original language. However, if a name requires transliteration to the latin alphabet, please suggest an appropriate name.

Please collect the genre's:

  • author name
  • creation date (first release date)
  • link to author's genre page (if available)
  • link to the first publication page (if different, if available), such as a puzzle magazine where the genre first appeared.

Suggestions:

A great source for classic genres is the WPC wiki.

Please attempt to find:

  • PuzzleSquareJP id (the number after puzsq.logicpuzzle.app/?kind=)
  • puzz.link id (the word after puzz.link/p?)
  • Otto Janko's id (the word after janko.at/Raetsel)
  • Ropeko's id (the number after https://www.logic-puzzles.ropeko.ch/php/db/puzzle.php?id=)

These links will be displayed in the genre page.

if no puzzlesquare id is yet available, you are expected to register the genre in that platform after the release, and then send the id.

If there is a particular variant that would be a great fit for the genre, please suggest it. While there is no guarantee that it will be added, knowing about possible variants during a genre's implementation may guide it so that adding that variant in the future is easier.

Start by finding similar genres in the Page search page and note which tags they currently use. Then compile a list of suggested tags for the current genre.

Candidate genres are listed here, for self-reference only, in no particular order. To in a particular genre, please also state how you intend to contribute to the release (please wait for a reply before starting).

Returning to Erich Friedman's genres, there are some likely genre ideas:

As well as other ideas:

PuzzleGenius genre ideas:

  • eulero (make excel-like references so none repeats)
  • hundred (add digits so rows sum to 100)
    • bricks (sudoku but one odd and one even number per domino, so not all numbers are used in the region)
  • no four in a row (marupeke variant with n=4)
  • number cross similar logic to Show Ten, but sums are per row and listed outside the grid

Ideas from gridgamesapp (likely to have different names).
